Know what to take

Know what to take

Why?

You can’t take it all, so consider what is essential for your survival and what will help you cope in the days following a disaster.

Assemble go bags from checklists

Use the Go Bag checklist on your Personal Emergency Plan: Make sure everyone in your family has their own go bag. Each one should contain essential supplies to last each person for at least three days. Available checklists provide a great starting point, but only you know the special items you couldn’t do without during an emergency. For example, do you rely on certain medications? Personalize your go bag to suit your own needs.

If you have pets, service animals, or large animals, pack essential supplies to last at least three days. Assemble a pet or livestock disaster preparedness kit.

Personalize evacuation checklists

If you need to evacuate, what you can do before you leave and how much you can take with you will vary depending upon how urgently you need to leave. Use this Evacuation Timeline as a guide.

When a wildfire is approaching and you have more than an hour, take steps both inside and outside your house to help slow the spread of flames and make it easier for firefighters to do their job safely.

And don’t forget your animals. With some advance planning you can increase their chances of surviving a wildland fire.
