To get your electricity and gas usage for the last year….

Firstly, log in to your PGE account at pge.com. If you have never logged into your account you’ll have to register with PGE first.

After logging into your PGE account click on “ENERGY USAGE DETAILS” ( see image below)

Green Button Data.

When you click on “ENERGY USAGE DETAILS” a new page will be presented showing a blue graph of your usage. Page down and click on the “Green Button” on the right hand side.

Export Data

When you click on the Green Button a sub-window opens showing the options for downloading your usage data (see below). For the Time Period select “Export all bill totals” and for the Format select “CSV”. Then click on the blue “EXPORT” button.

BillingData.zip

Clicking on the “EXPORT” button will start a download of your data. The data comes in a zipped (compressed) file called BillingData.zip . Within the zipped file there will be two data files, one for your electricity usage and the other for you gas usage.

Electricity usage

Open the PGE_electric_billing_data.csv file into an excel spreadsheet. To calculate your annual usage simply add up the last 12 months of kWh usage. For example below you can see the usage is 4604kWh.

Gas Usage

To calculate the number of therms you used over the past year do the same with the pge_gas_billing_data.csv. Below you can see the usage is 335 therms

Calculating your kWh for the carbon calculator

Let’s assume you used 4604 kWh over the past 12 month

If you do not have solar, i.e. you are getting your power from the grid. Firtly find out where your power is coming from. Looks at page 4 or 5 on your PGE bill and look for EVERGREEN or CLEANSTART. click here for image

1. if you have SCP (Sonoma Clean Power) EverGreen:  Because EverGreen is 100% clean your number is ZERO. This is by far the best situation if you do not have solar. Phone SCL (855-202-2139) and switch over now.

2. if you have SCP (Sonoma Clean Power) CleanStart: Because Clean Start is 93% clean, and 7% dirty you number will be 7 %  of  4604 = 322

3. if you have PGE. Then your number of kWh you enter will be the full 4604

If you have solar there are a few different situations.

1. your solar production matches (or near enough) what you use, i.e. there is little or no "true-up" at year's end. In this case you'll enter ZERO for your electricity usage.

2. your solar production is a less-than-100% of your usage; for example if your solar panels produce 65% of what you use, then 35% of your electricity comes from another source:

    a. you have PGE provide the rest (most people have this option). Then your number of kWh you enter will be 35% of your annual usage. e.g. 35% of 4604 = 1611

b. you have SCP (Sonoma Clean Power) CleanStart: Because Clean Start is 93% clean, and 7% dirty your number will be 7 % of 35% of  4604 = 112

    c. you have SCP (Sonoma Clean Power) EverGreen:  Because EverGreen is 100% clean your number is ZERO3. your solar production is more than 100% of your usage (hardly ever happens) ; your number is ZERO
