Goal 1: Plan for Communication
Why?
Secure your home, making you more resilient in the face of all kinds of potential emergencies and disasters.
Action 1/3: Start Personal Emergency Plan
Have a place to organize your emergency prep actions.
FIRST - Get the Personal Emergency Plan
As we Prepare for Emergencies, we will use the County of Sonoma's “Personal Emergency Plan” as a workbook for many actions. The document has space to fill in important information like meeting places, emergency contacts, medical needs, and more. We will make a note in each action that can use this document as we work through this section.
While supplies last, “Evac Packs” are also available at your local Sonoma County Library. The Sonoma County Department of Emergency Preparedness’s Evac Pack contains the Personal Emergency Plan workbook as well as an information sheet, tips for power shutoffs, and a checklist for evacuations. You can also contact the Cool Petaluma office for copies.

Fill in the Personal Information
Start by filling in the Personal Information page. This makes it easy for first responders and shelter workers to understand important information about you.
Take CPR & First Aid Training
Following a disaster, people may have to rely on each other to meet their immediate life-saving and life-sustaining needs. And imagine if every neighborhood had at least one identified person who knew CPR, one who had first aid training, and one who was trained in disaster response.
You may one day find these skills are vital to help save a life, even if not related to a disaster. What could be more rewarding than that?
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a life-saving procedure you can learn and use if someone’s heart stops beating (cardiac arrest). It can double or triple the odds of survival.
First aid training equips you to respond to injuries and perform simple emergency medical care when medical professionals are not yet available.
